Construction crews Monday started demolishing part of the East Wing of the White House as part of President Donald Trump’s project to build a new ballroom, according to an administration official.

Demolition crews are tearing down part of the White House's storied East Wing to begin building Trump's ballroom, a project he had said would not interfere with the existing landmark.

“I am pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom,” Trump posted on social media on Monday, per CNN.
