As Detroit's cellular network grows, the city is running out of 313 area code phone numbers. Soon, new phone numbers will start with 679, not 313.
Starting Oct. 7, all metro Detroit residents will be required to dial 10 digits to complete calls in preparation for the 679 overlay.
