Ohio State junior safety Caleb Downs was named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award on Tuesday. The award is given annually to the best defensive back in college football. Downs, who is the only returning 2024 finalist for the Thorpe Award, has recorded 34 tackles and an interception this season.
Former Ohio State center Bob Maggs, a two-time All-Big Ten selection, has died “unexpectedly,” his family has announced. He was 61 years old. An Ohio native, Maggs was a four-year letterman at Ohio State. He was also the starting center for the Buckeyes in 1985 and 1986.
