Construction started this week on the $250 million ballroom that President Trump is adding to the White House as construction crews began tearing down the facade of the East Wing, where the new space is being built. The Republican president and top White House officials had initially said nothing would be demolished during construction.

Demolition work on the East Wing of the White House began on Monday, Oct. 20 under President Donald Trump as the federal government shutdown entered its 21st day.

Some 47% of U.S. adults are “not very” or “not at all confident” they could find a good job if they wanted to, an increase from 37% when the question was last asked in October 2023.
